America's Summit

John appeared on America's Summit: Restore the Republic, the national telephone conference call put on by America's Independent Party, on Tuesday, February 1, 2011.  This link will take you to the site of their simulcast web-based radio show.  Be sure to click on the archive for February 1.  There are approximately 1.5 minutes of dead space at the beginning of the call, so don't give up too soon.  Also, whenever the host mutes and unmutes herself, you get a computer voice over the rest of the call.  These things are a minor inconvenience and easily ignored.  This was a boisterous call, and the debate was lively.  You will enjoy it!  http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast.jsp?masterId=93806&cmd=tc

Ex-Sterling man running for president

BY KIRAN SOOD, ksood@svnmail.com, 800-798-4085, ext. 529

FORESTHILL, Calif. – Sterling native John Albert Dummett Jr. believes he has what it takes to run for the highest office in the land – president of the United States.

Dummett, 55, is a staff programmer analyst for the California Department of Fish and Game.  He was born in Sterling in October 1955. His family moved to Sacramento a year later.

Dummett, who calls himself a conservative Republican, said he determined there is no difference between the two major parties, and so decided someone like him needed to run to change the course of the nation.

“I am a constitutional historian,” he said.  “Let’s put somebody that is educated and knows what they are doing. That’s what got me interested in running.

The Founding Fathers “never intended that our leaders should come from a privileged class of people,” he said in an email.

“If we don’t stop voting for Ivy League-trained attorneys, career politicians or wealthy businessmen, the only change we will ever get is a change in faces and not in the way politics are carried out or with our ideology as a nation,” he wrote.

Dummett’s campaign manager, William Odom of Ocala, Fla., knows how difficult it will be to get his candidate any national media attention.  “My main thing is to get John exposure and to get his message out to the people, people that would not normally hear what his message is,” Odom said.

“It takes a long time for an unknown person to make a stand.  We are working hard.  He is getting more exposure, more volunteers that are lining up.”

Dummett, too, is aware of the difficulties he faces getting any attention for his campaign.  But he believes he has “just a good a chance as everybody else” to win the election.

“We are trying as hard as we can to get the name out there,” he said. “Donations will come in, I’m sure they will, once we start getting the attention that we should get.”

His primary method of communication with potential supporters so far is his personal and campaign website, johndummett.us.  He is also producing videos and using YouTube to get his message out.  The videos contain his beliefs on the “principles this country was founded on,” he said.

“We want to restore the nation to the way it once ran,” he said.  “I am spending time getting my name out.”

Dummett is seeking campaign contributions to allow him to travel across the country.  His campaign committee has raised about $2,000 so far.

He’s also looking for help.

“I am actively looking for local volunteers to head up my campaign in Illinois,” he said.

Bio:

Sterling native John Dummett graduated from Coronado High School in California in 1973, attended Southwestern College in Chula Vista and earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and history from San Diego State University in 1990.

Dummett has been married to Karmi Sue Knutson for 34 years, and has six children: Christopher, 34; Mathew, 32; Karen, 29; John Robert, 28; Andrew, 21; and Joshua, 17, and two granddaughters, ages 13 and 3.

Where he's coming from:

“If we do not stand together and demand that our Republic be restored back to the form envisioned by our Founding Fathers, we will slowly dissolve into a socialist state.

To prevent this from happening, we must completely dismantle the progressive political engine created by career politicians to maintain their hold on power. The easiest way to do this is to vote out every single incumbent politician and replace him or her with common, ordinary American patriots.”
